Darjeeling district magistrate Mr Surendra Gupta today said that the district administration was adequately prepared to confront any eventuality in course of campaigning for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. “We are not thinking in terms of seeking additional forces from the Centre and the state government right now. If need be, we would ask the state government to suitably augment the district law-enforcing apparatus,” he said.

Terming the situation in the Hills and the plains as “normal”, he said that it might become tricky with the campaign momentum gaining steam in the coming days. “We will provide full security cover to all political parties in the poll fray. Each party is constitutionally mandated to project its views in public freely unless they infringe on the freedom of speech of others,” the district magistrate said. MORE...
