GJMM still uncertain about party tilt

Even as the General Elections are nearing fast, the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha is increasingly getting entangled in a dilemma about its role in the polls.

The party leadership had hinted a few days back at fielding their own candidates in the Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituencies, but later altered the stance by offering to back the BJP in Darjeeling if the saffron party replaced its already announced candidate by some “well-known political figure”.

But with the BJP being lukewarm to the replacement proposal so far, the GJMM is now at the doors of the Congress once again.

According to GJMM sources, party chief Mr Bimal Gurung and other partymen are trying to meet “Madam Sonia Gandhi” later this evening with an offer of support for the Congress in the three LS constituencies of Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.
