The GJMM leadership today said that it was not opposed to the deployment of paramilitary forces in the Darjeeling Hills during the Lok Sabha elections. The comment came in response to a CPI-M demand on the subject.
The CPI-M leadership in Siliguri had yesterday demanded the deployment of paramilitary forces in the Darjeeling Hills to ensure political parties could campaign freely. Reacting to the demand today, GJMM vice-president Mr Pradeep Pradhan said that his party had no objection to the deployment of such forces. “The forces, however, should not act under the CPI-M ruled government,” he added.
