Svacha waiting for passport

DARJEELING, Nov 4: The chief judicial magistrate court said that the seized passport and camera of Czech entomologist Mr Petr Svacha would be given back to him on 10 November.

While his companion and another Czech national Emil Kucera was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment for collecting more than 200 species of rare insects from Singalila National Park has fled to Czech Republic, Mr Svacha has been acquitted of the charges and is waiting for his passport to be given back to him. However, since he is presently undergoing medical treatment in Delhi, defence lawyer Mr Taranga Pandit has been authorised through a letter from the Czech Embassy to collect the passport on his behalf.

Today, the defence lawyer acquired a letter from psychiatrist Mr Sunil Mittal associated with the Cosmos Institute of Mental Health in Delhi, advising Svacha to avoid exposure of stressful environment to maintain his mental equilibrium.

The letter says Mr Svacha is suffering from General Anxiety Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after what he went through in the last few months. Meanwhile, the hearing of Mr Kucera’s appeal against the lower court's verdict was scheduled for 6 November.
