The CPI-M has demanded that the Central Election Commission (CEC) intervene in the Darjeeling hills in order to ensure a ‘conducive atmosphere’ for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The CPI-M leadership say the GJMM is not allowing any parties apart from the Congress and the BJP to function in the region.
“Whenever a political party moves against the GJMM's undemocratic activities, their voice is stifled by threats and active violence. A free and fair election will not be possible in Darjeeling if the situation is not addressed,” said senior CPI-M leader and state urban development minister, Mr Asok Bhattacharya.
The minister added that the CPI-M would write to the Central Election Commission in a day or two, demanding an appropriate remedy. MORE...
