Special envoy stakes stock of Sikkim’s measures towards protection of Himalayan ecology

The Prime Minister’s special envoy on Climatic Changes, Shyam Sharan today communicated the Sikkim government about the Centre’s commitment for laying down urgent policy interventions to safeguard the ecology of the Himalayan belt of the country.

There is an urgent need for policy intervention for preventing degradation of the Himalayan ecology besides launching efforts for regenerating the lost ecology, said Mr. Sharan to reporters here after a lengthy meeting with the State government officials.

The special envoy was visiting Sikkim after touring other Himalayan States like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for setting up a coordinated approach between the State government of the Himalayan region and the Union government to formulating a comprehensive and ambitious national mission for sustaining the Himalayan eco system of the nation.
