hyam Sharan, the special envoy of the Prime Minister today expressed the Centre’s commitment towards connectivity issues of the border State of Sikkim adding that an alternative highway, airport and rail link has already been sanctioned.

“Three projects for Sikkim have already been cleared by the Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs. These are an alternative highway, airport at Pakyong in East Sikkim and a rail link to the border town of Rangpo”, said Mr. Sharan to reporters after a meeting with the State government officials here.

Highlighting the importance of smooth connectivity links for Sikkim, Mr. Sharan said that objective behind the above connectivity projects is that the Himalayan State should not be cut off in even of natural calamities or political disturbances in the neighbouring Darjeeling region. MORE...
