Tibetan New Year festival begins

Feb. 25: Lhosar, the Tibetan New Year, which started today, is being celebrated in full grandeur by all Tibetans and many Sikkimese in the West and North districts of the state. According to the Tibetan calendar, this is the Lung-Lho (Ox Year).
Yesterday, Tibetans offered dry fruits, tea leaves, fruits and sweets to propitiate the gods at the altar called Chesum. Today, the Tibetans started their day by offering Khada (scarf) around taps, which are believed to be oozing the white lion’s milk in the form of water.
