Senior police officials of the region have decided to start confidence-building campaigns to allay the fear of people who witnessed clashes between the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supporters and Gorkhaland protesters in the Dooars and in Siliguri in the past few weeks.
“Most of the incidents reported from these areas were caused by rumours,” said K.L. Tamta, the inspector-general of police (north Bengal), today. “A sense of insecurity is running high among people and that is why they are reacting so fast. We have decided to approach them for confidence-building and to reassure them that the police are there to help them.” MORE...
