Gangtok , Sikkim : The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) has bagged recognition for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) course from the Indian Association of Physiotherapist.

The certificate of recognition was received by the Dean communicating recognition w.e.f. July 25, earlier this year. The recognition follows the approval of the Committee of the Indian Association of Physiotherapy and thereafter passed in its General Body. The recognition covers all the batches which have passed out from the College of Physiotherapy, SMIMS. This recognition, however, is only in respect of the programme being carried out in Gangtok.

Meanwhile, approval has already been communicated for admission of candidates to B.Sc Nursing courses for the year 2007-08 from the Indian Nursing Council for 30 seats.

It may be recalled that the SMIMS had received the recognition for its MBBS qualification in May 2007 following the approval by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the inclusion of such recognized medical qualification in the schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.
