Barros for apples in Darjeeling

Chile's ambassador to India, Cristan Barros who was in Kolkata expressed his interest to extend technological support in the agriculture sector to Bengal government to produce best quality fruits in the state. Even the barren land can be used for best quality fruit production. He mentioned that Chile's fresh fruits and fruit products are exported to different parts of the globe and US consumes a major part of it.

Barros said that the Chile can provide support to Bengal government in preserving fruits. This would help the state to earn more revenue from fruits and fruit products. "We have the know how to produce best fruits. If our knowledge gets implemented on the barren lands in Bengal, it would prove to be remunerative. Land is an asset and needs to be put to best use, so that the state can earn from it." The diplomat has graciously offered to provide support so that apples can be grown in Darjeeling. He said that the temperature there can be considered best for growing apples. He also wanted that Bengal farmers should go for growing more cherry and plums, as it is in high demand in the global market.

Moreover the diplomat said that they are also willing to have joint venture in mining sector as Chile is known for its mines. "We can provide latest technology in mining sector as well, so that Bengal can use its mining resources in a better way."
