DARJEELING: Protesting the alleged police lathi-charge on supporters in Dooars, activists of the GJM blocked NH-55 in Darjeeling and demonstrated in front of the Sadar police station for more then two hours on Sunday afternoon.
GJM assistant secretary Benoy Tamang, who is currently in the Dooars, alleged that the police had tried to forcibly remove the participants of the ongoing relay hunger strike at Shibshu. Failing to do so, they allegedly entered the houses of some GJM supporters and beat them up with lathis. "Police used force to remove those participating in our hunger strike. But when they could not, they vented their anger on our innocent supporters," alleged Tamang. Five GJM supporters were allegedly beaten up.
