Now Tamang son’s guard dead

The situation at Darjeeling took another turn on Wednesday as the body of Raju Tamang, private security guard of Sanjog Tamang (son of slain All India Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang), was found in his room at Uttarayan complex at Siliguri.

“The body has been sent for post mortem and after the report comes we will be able to say how he died,” state home secretary Samar Ghosh told The Indian Express in Kolkata.

Raju was to stay in a room adjacent to Sanjog’s who is a student. On Wednesday morning, when Raju did not wake Sanjog up, he went to bang on the guard’s door. However, after repeated attempts yielded no response, he called the police. They broke open the door and found the body of the security guard lying on the floor. There were no external marks of injury on his body, according to eye-witnesses.

Meanwhile, Nicole Tamang — the prime accused in the Madan Tamang murder — continues to remain untraceable four days after his escape from CID custody, despite the CID announcing a reward of Rs. 50,000 for any information on his whereabouts.

“We hope we will get the results soon,” said Neeraj Narayan Pandey, IG, CID, who went to Darjeeling on Wednesday to give a fillip to the investigation into Nicole’s escape.

On Thursday, ADG CID Raj Kanojia will reach Siliguri to provide further boost to the investigation. “I am going there not only to take a look into the investigation but also to hold a review meeting of all CID units at North Bengal,” Kanojia told The Indian Express.

According to sources in Darjeeling police, Nicole might have escaped to Nepal again and the state police has contacted the Nepal police about the same.

On the other hand, the group of AIGL delegation led by its president Bharati Tamang, which went to Delhi last week and met several union ministers including Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Law Minister Veerappa Moily on Wednesday came back to Darjeeling amidst tight security.

“We want a CBI probe into Nicole Tamang’s escape. We said this in Delhi and we are sticking to it,” Bharati Tamang said at Siliguri.
