Gangtok, Dec 7 (PTI) The proposed air connectivity to destinations in Sikkim, which could provide eco-adventure and wellness tourism, would boost the sector, Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja said today.

"It was to enable the state to promote tourist destinations that the Union Tourism Ministry granted financial assistance for development of three heliport projects in the state," she said after laying the foundation stone for the proposed heliport at Chemchey in south Sikkim.

Two other heliports have been proposed at Geetang Khola in West Sikkim and Mangan in North Sikkim, she said, adding that air connectivity would help the state in promotion of tourist destinations in rural and unaccessible areas.

Selja, who also inaugurated the Himalayan Adventure and Eco-Tourism Centre at Chemchey, said her ministry would support the state government for development and promotion of niche tourism products like eco-tourism, adventure tourism and wellness tourism.
