‘GNLF move will divide votes’

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today called GNLF chief Subhas Ghisingh a “stooge of the CPM” for his decision to either put up his own candidate for the Lok Sabha polls or support one from a “national” party.

Criticising his decision as a “tool to divide the hill votes”, the Morcha said Ghisingh was against the creation of Gorkhaland and only wanted Sixth Schedule status for the hills.

On a visit to Jalpaiguri on Tuesday, Ghisingh had said: “We (GNLF) will play a proactive role in the Lok Sabha elections. We might field our own candidate or support any other party.”

Today, the vice-president of the Gorkha Janmukti Yuwa Morcha, Jiten Rai, said his statement made it clear he was “against the aspirations of the people of the Darjeeling hills” as his sole aim appeared to be to split the hill votes. MORE...
