Aid offer for ‘martyr’ family & strike call

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of Akbar Lama, who had died in the clash between pro and anti Gorkhaland supporters in the Dooars yesterday.

The party has also called an indefinite strike in state and central government offices across the hills from tomorrow. Some departments will, however, be allowed to function on particular days a week.

“The party will pay Rs 2 lakh to the family members of Akbar Lama, whom we consider as a martyr for our cause. He has two children and we will sponsor their education in Darjeeling,” said Binay Tamang, the media and publicity secretary of the Morcha. MORE...
