The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha has decided to leave out tourist spots from the purview of the agitation it launched against Central and state government offices in Darjeeling today. The development came following a meeting between the GJMM leadership and the Darjeeling DM Mr Rajesh Pandey.
According to the GJMM leadership, the organisation would continue with its stir against the Central and state government run offices and establishments in the Darjeeling Hills but tourist spots like the Darjeeling zoo and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute would be left out of the stir.
It was also decided that the GJMM would henceforth seek the district administration’s permission to hold political and other programmes. The DM would forward the application to the Jalpaiguri divisional commissioner, for consideration.
While the GJMM has demanded an inquiry into the 9 April incident in which, several ex-servicemen were injured in a police lathicharge, the 11 ex-servicemen arrested in the course of the rally were released on bail today.
