The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education officials intend to be more cautious while publishing results this year after being involved in the Madhyamik result “leak” controversy last year. The results of Madhyamik examinations were leaked out at least a day earlier and beamed on various television channels.
“After going through the entire process several times, efforts have been taken to plug the loopholes to prevent the incident from being repeated this year,” Mr Swapan Sarkar, board secretary said.
A total of 7,46,194 candidates will appear for the Madhyamik examination scheduled to start on Friday. Compared to last year, around 10.6 per cent more candidates will take the school-leaving examination this year which will be held across 2,020 schools of the state.
Examinees would get an additional 15 minutes before the examination to read the question paper. Question papers will be distributed to students at 11.45 a.m. and the examination will start from 12.00 noon and continue till 3 p.m.
Between 5,000 and 6,000 examinees of North Bengal will not feel the usual chill while writing their papers this year. In association with the state school education department, the Board has arranged for fireplaces to be set up at the examination centres. Examination centres in Darjeeling, Ghum, Pokhari and Sonada will be heated. An inmate of Alipore correctional home will take the test this year.
Special assistants would aid the specially-challenged candidates. The assistants would interpret questions for the specially-challenged students for 15 minutes before the examination starts. The Board has also set up helplines. Candidates can call 22291250 and 22268594 for assistance. Traffic arrangement around the centres will be regulated to ensure the examinees reach and leaves them without problems.
