Narrow escape for Darjeeling Mail

The alert driver of the Darjeeling Mail saved the train from a possible accident by stopping it after noticing a crack on the track near Dhumdangi Railway station, about 20 km from New Jalpaiguri, on Monday.

The train was immediately stopped and help was sought from a nearby station by the driver, railway sources said. This led stoppage of movement of trains on the UP line and other trains were brought to New Jalpaiguri by using the down track.

The cause of the crack was believed to be caused by severe cold in the small hours, the source said adding that the line was repaired and there was no major set back on the scheduled run of trains.
