Darjeeling: Three people were injured when a clash broke out between political rivals near the taxi stand in Singamari late on Saturday night. Some of the vehicles were also damaged.
According to police, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters attacked Avinash Tamang of Bannockburn when he, along with Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supporters were returning home after a public meeting.
Tamang, who sustained serious injuries on his neck, had to be admitted to the district hospital. Two others suffered minor injuries. Bimal Gurung, Dawa Lama and Aloke Kant Thulung, including 10 others, have been named in the FIR lodged at Darjeeling Sadar police station. Police have initiated a case of rioting and attempt to murder.
"Some of the GNLF men lodged a complaint on Saturday night. We have already registered a case and started a probe," said Sadar PS OC NT Sherpa.
