Gangtok: reservation of seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly until seats are reserved for the Limboo-Tamangs as Scheduled Tribes in Sikkim.
“There is a long pending processes for reservation of seats from passing a proposal by the Sikkim State Cabinet to reservation of seat by the Delimitation Commission.
The SDF Government has not even initiated the first step,” alleged Mr HR Pradhan president of the BJP, Sikkim.
“Any Constitutional amendment Bill requires a 2/3 majority and without the support of BJP and its allies, it is difficult to get 2/3 majority and pass a Bill in Parliament as has been proven in the proposed Sixth Schedule status for Darjeeling.
The same fate will have for any Bill on reservation of seats in Sikkim Legislative Assembly if it does not conform to the BJP’s stand on seat reservation,” he added. Urging the SDF Party and its Government to “stop misleading the innocent people” by giving false hope and its MPs raising questions on seat reservation in Parliament, the BJP leader, said: “We had to file a case in the Supreme Court of India only to compel the SDF government to initiate the first and second process for reservation of seats in the SLA and the next hearing of the case is again coming up on 30 January 2008.”
The BJP leader also invited the SDF for open debate on the issue.
