Gangtok, Sikkim: Trade between India and China through Nathula resumed for the second year yesterday, but little business was conducted by either side.
For the Indians, it was more of a formality. Around 30 Chinese traders, however, had crossed over to pick up tea, rice, pickles and biscuits.
The scene on the second day was bleaker. No one was around from the other side of the border. “This is probably because of the Buddha Jayanti celebrations,” said Anil Gupta, the general secretary of Indo-China Traders’ Association and the only businessman present at Nathula today.
