Darjeeling: Work in most government offices here may be disrupted tomorrow because of a strike called by the Hill Employees’ Association (Eden Dham) over a number of long-standing demands.
The charter of demands includes filling of over 1,000 vacancies in government posts, restarting the Darjeeling ropeway (closed since 2003) and an immediate solution to the water scarcity in town.
Today, the association also demanded the district magistrate’s intervention in solving the impasse at Darjeeling Gymkhana Club following the sex-scandal there.
District magistrate Rajesh Pandey said he has not received any communication from the club about the house being dissolved yesterday.
The club did not issue any official statement today.
