DARJEELING: Eminent educationist and former headmaster of Ghoom Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Darjeeling, A J Pradhan died at the age of 74.

Hundreds of wellwishers, including family members, colleagues and pupils paid homage to the departed soul on 26 April.

Born to Stephen Pradhan and Sarah Pradhan on 21 August, 1933, AJ Pradhan was a renowned educationist from the Darjeeling Hills and one of the most beloved headmasters of GBHSS, Darjeeling.

Pradhan was the receiver of the National Teacher’s Award accorded by former President, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy.

AJ Pradhan began his career as a teacher at Ram Krishna Shiksha Parishad, Darjeeling, in 1954. He joined GBHSS in 1954 and served diligently until his retirement in 1993. Pradhan had an outstanding academic career from childhood.

A post-graduate in History from the Calcutta University, books written by Pradhan of English Grammar, Nepali Grammar and History are extensively used in the schools of the Darjeeling Hills.
